Kremlin Says Nuclear Arsenal Is Core of Russia’s Security Doctrine

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has reiterated that nuclear weapons remain the central pillar of Russia’s national security strategy, according to remarks attributed to spokesperson Dmitry Peskov and cited in reports.

Peskov said that Russia’s nuclear arsenal serves as a guarantee against existential threats, arguing that a nuclear-armed state cannot be subjected to direct external pressure in the same way as other countries.

According to reports, he described nuclear deterrence as the foundation of Russia’s security posture, emphasizing its role in preventing threats to the country’s survival.

He also commented on Russia’s relations with Europe, suggesting that increased discussion within the European Union about the possibility of renewed engagement with Moscow represents what he called a “major shift,” and one that aligns with Russian interests.

Peskov indicated that Moscow views the prospect of future dialogue with European partners positively, stating that Russia is not responsible for the breakdown in previous communication channels and remains open to rebuilding ties.

According to reports, he also commented on speculation regarding potential EU negotiators in future talks, referencing EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in a critical tone.

His remarks come alongside broader statements from Russian leadership reinforcing the importance of strategic nuclear capabilities. President Vladimir Putin has previously emphasized ongoing modernization efforts and described Russia’s advanced weapons systems as unmatched in capability.
