Fresh Round of Russia, Ukraine, US Negotiations Kicks Off

(MENAFN) A new phase of three-way negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States has officially started in Abu Dhabi, as efforts continue to address the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, which is approaching its fourth year. The launch of the talks was confirmed on Wednesday by Ukraine’s lead negotiator.

“The negotiation process started in a trilateral format — Ukraine, the United States, and Russia,” Rustem Umerov stated in a post on social media. He explained that after the joint discussions, participants will split into specialized working groups focused on separate negotiation tracks.

According to Umerov, the process will later include a “follow-up joint synchronization of positions,” adding that the Ukrainian delegation is operating “within the clear directives of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to achieve a dignified and lasting peace.”

“We inform the Head of State about the progress of each stage of the negotiations,” he added.
This latest round follows an earlier set of consultations held over two days on January 23 and 24, also in the Emirati capital, with US representatives taking part.

The American delegation is reported to include special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, both of whom arrived in Abu Dhabi earlier on Wednesday, according to reports.

Following the first round, officials in Kyiv and Washington characterized the discussions as “constructive,” while Moscow indicated that engagement had begun positively but emphasized that there remains “significant work ahead.”

Shortly after the second round got underway—expected to continue for two days—the Kremlin signaled that it does not intend to issue any statements on the outcome of the talks on the same day.

Speaking to reporters during a briefing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the possibility of a peaceful resolution remains open. However, he stressed that Russia will continue its “special military operation,” the term Moscow uses for the conflict, which is set to enter its fifth year later this month, until Kyiv makes what he described as the “appropriate decisions.”
