Russian Aviation Firm Secures Deal to Send Aircraft to India
The deal was finalized when United Aircraft Corporation and India’s Flamingo Aerospace confirmed plans to supply six Il-114-300 aircraft during the Wings India 2026 aviation exhibition held in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The aircraft are intended to support the expansion of regional air travel across India.
“The cooperation program is aimed at meeting India’s growing regional aviation needs,” UAC said in a statement. “The delivery of six IL-114-300 aircraft will be the first stage.”
Beyond aircraft delivery, the arrangement includes technical and industrial cooperation. Under the agreement, the Russian firm will share “a roadmap for the development of aviation competencies” with its Indian partner. This support will focus on strengthening Flamingo’s ability to handle aircraft assembly and modification, as well as maintenance, repair, overhaul operations, and related infrastructure development.
The Ilyushin contract was the second significant announcement involving UAC at the Hyderabad event. Earlier the same day, the Russian manufacturer entered into a separate partnership with India’s state-backed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to jointly produce Sukhoi SJ-100 superjet aircraft.
That agreement grants HAL the authority to manufacture the SJ-100 domestically for use within India, signaling a deepening of industrial collaboration beyond military aviation.
“Our traditional cooperation in defense is well known, but now we venture into a civil segment, which is very significant,” Denis Alipov told RT India on Wednesday. He further emphasized the scale of opportunity, saying, “The [Indian] domestic market for regional air travel is huge, and Russia and our manufacturers are very keen to collaborate with Indian partners and to come up with indigenous products.”
India’s aviation sector is expected to require more than 200 civil aircraft over the next ten years to meet domestic regional demand, along with an estimated 350 additional planes to support international routes across the Indian Ocean region.
