Russian Delegation Heads to Florida for Talks on Ukraine Peace

(MENAFN) A Russian diplomatic team is anticipated to visit Florida this week to engage with US officials involved in President Donald Trump’s effort to facilitate a peace arrangement in the Ukraine conflict, according to reports from various media outlets.

The delegation is reportedly headed by senior negotiator Kirill Dmitriev and is set to meet over the weekend in Miami with US special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, media outlets reported, citing sources familiar with the arrangements. Earlier this week, Witkoff and Kushner were in Germany holding discussions with Ukrainian officials regarding potential security guarantees for Kiev.

In addition, a separate Ukrainian delegation led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov is also expected to travel to Miami later in the week. However, the reports highlighted that no joint meeting between all three parties is currently scheduled.

Kiev and its European supporters have been pressing Washington to reconsider or adjust its initial peace plan, which, according to media sources, addressed several long-standing Russian concerns.

Moscow has generally refrained from commenting on negotiations in which it is not a direct participant, repeatedly noting that it can only evaluate proposals received through official channels. Russian authorities have stressed that any resolution must address what they describe as the underlying causes of the conflict, including the expansion of Western military influence in Ukraine and Kiev’s treatment of ethnic Russians.

On the battlefield, Russian forces continue to hold the advantage. President Vladimir Putin recently stated that the accumulated experience in overcoming Ukrainian defenses “allows us to increase the pace of advancement in strategic directions.”
