U.S.-Russia Peace Talks Set for Miami This Weekend

(MENAFN) U.S. and Russian officials are preparing for possible negotiations in Miami, Florida, this weekend as part of efforts to forge a peace agreement to end the nearly four-year war in Ukraine, according to media.

The timing of the talks is not yet finalized, and the meeting could still shift, the report said, citing two sources familiar with the planning. If discussions proceed, the Trump administration is expected to brief Russian counterparts on outcomes from recent talks involving U.S., Ukrainian, and European officials held in Berlin last weekend.

The U.S. delegation is expected to include President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, the report said. Russia’s side is expected to be represented by Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev.

Separately, Ukrainian national security adviser Rustem Umerov is expected to meet with the U.S. delegation over the weekend, either in Miami or elsewhere in the United States.

According to officials within the Trump administration, U.S., European, and Ukrainian negotiators resolved or sharply narrowed roughly 90 percent of their disagreements during the Berlin meetings, centered on a 20-point U.S.-drafted peace proposal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously indicated that Kyiv could pause its bid to join NATO in return for firm Western security guarantees aimed at deterring renewed Russian aggression. Ukraine is seeking protections comparable to those granted to NATO members, assurances that Washington has so far declined to provide.

Zelensky also said Ukraine is prepared to accept security guarantees modeled on NATO’s Article 5 as part of a negotiated settlement, according to a news agency.
