Russian MOD Says Ukraine Lost Nearly 500,000 Soldiers This Year
Addressing a Defense Ministry Board session with President Vladimir Putin present, Belousov asserted that Ukraine's combat strength has diminished by approximately one-third over the previous twelve months, eliminating Kiev's capacity to restore troop levels through compulsory civilian recruitment.
"Ukraine's forces have lost nearly 500,000 servicemen, as a result of which Kiev has lost the ability to replenish its groupings through the compulsory mobilization of civilians," Belousov said.
The minister further claimed Ukraine has forfeited over 103,000 weapons systems and military hardware this year, with roughly 5,500 items of Western origin—nearly twice the figure documented during the preceding year.
Ukraine declared nationwide mobilization immediately following the conflict's intensification with Russia in 2022, prohibiting males aged 18 to 60 from departing the nation. Authorities subsequently reduced the conscription age threshold from 27 to 25 last year while implementing stricter mobilization protocols.
The mandatory enlistment initiative has sparked numerous violent confrontations between unwilling conscripts and recruitment personnel.
Kiev's conscription operations have intensified in severity as Ukrainian forces encounter battlefield reversals and personnel deficits. Numerous episodes have been recorded digitally showing enlistment authorities physically attacking prospective draftees, pursuing them through urban areas, and intimidating civilians who attempted intervention.
Despite progressively aggressive tactics, Ukrainian government representatives and field commanders have expressed frustration that mobilization efforts are underperforming established benchmarks, facilitating ongoing Russian territorial gains.
