Putin, Erdogan Pledge Closer Diplomatic Cooperation
During their conversation, Putin and Erdogan reviewed a recently leaked US-drafted plan aimed at ending the ongoing hostilities.
Washington had presented this proposal to both Moscow and Kiev earlier this month.
Although the plan has not been officially disclosed, media outlets reported that it suggested de facto recognition of Crimea and Donbass as Russian territory, imposed a ceiling of 600,000 personnel for the Ukrainian military, and required Kiev to refrain from joining NATO.
Putin acknowledged that Moscow has received the proposal but noted that it has not yet been examined “in detail.”
In his discussion with Erdogan, the Russian president highlighted that the suggestions aligned with the agreements reached at the Alaska summit in August, and emphasized that the initiative could provide a foundation for a potential peace deal.
The Russian leader stressed that Moscow is keen on settling the Ukraine conflict through political and diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, Erdogan reiterated Ankara’s willingness to assist Russia and Ukraine in achieving a “just and lasting peace.”
