Russia’s aide says US to discuss peace deal for Ukraine in person
Speaking with journalists in Moscow, he noted that Russia has received informal “signals” from the US hinting at possible engagement, but no official details have been provided on who might visit Moscow or when any talks could begin.
“I would assume that it is natural to expect the US to contact us for an in-person meeting and begin discussions,” he said.
“But there is no definitive agreement yet. We have not received a specific proposal about who intends to come and when.”
He added that there is still “much speculation” surrounding the proposed plan and its various rumored versions, stressing that Moscow relies only on information formally transmitted through established channels.
“Mr. Rubio said the Geneva talks with the Ukrainians were satisfactory, and he mentioned 28 points, and also 26 points. There is a lot being circulated. It is unclear who to believe,” he said. “But we believe what we saw, what was conveyed to us through the appropriate channels.”
The aide confirmed that Russia has reviewed one iteration of the US draft that corresponds to understandings reached during discussions in Alaska earlier in the year.
“Not all, but many provisions of this plan seem entirely acceptable to us,” he said, while noting that other parts require structured and detailed negotiations.
“There are currently 28 points. These provisions require the most thorough discussion between the parties, and this has not yet happened.”
When asked whether the existing draft should be released publicly, he explained that the proposal is still being examined by several sides and will likely undergo updates before any disclosure is considered.
“This is a very serious matter,” he said, emphasizing that the plan has not been formally discussed with Russia in a systematic manner.
